How long do I have to wear my braces? How is it determined?

The duration of your treatment and the type of appliance to be fitted can be determined according to amount of tooth movement after your orthodontic treatment, your age, your pre-treatment teeth. Once the most suitable appliance for you is determined, you will be fitted with reinforcements on the day your tooth wires are removed or as soon as possible. These appliances do not apply any force to your teeth, they do not cause pain just protect your teeth position.
Retantion treatment should continue until development is completed. In general, retainers can be worn in both daytime and nightime. Its duration is almost half duration of active orthodontic treatment.

The retainers should be worn at a reduced rate until they are fully removed. For example, it is reduced by wearing one at two nights, then at three nights, once a week, every fifteen days. An important issue is that if they are inserted in two evenings easily, it can be once in three days. If it is tight, the plaque should be continued to wear once in two days. Such a problem will not occur because it is not removed in fixed appliances.
What you need to be aware of during reinforcement treatment
-You should always wear your fixed or moving retainers in accordance with the instructions of your orthodontic specialist.
-You may experience a slight speech and swallowing problem when first installed on both appliances. This is temporary.
– If you are wearing stable retainers, be sure to brush your teeth after each meal. If you can not brush, rinse with water.
– If you wear movable retainers, take it out while eating and absolutely keep it in its special bag against getting lost. Wash it in warm-cold water with a toothbrush and liquid soap in order to prevent odor and dirty plaque or you can use effervescent tablets sold in pharmacies.
-Always take it out during swimming and keep it in the box.
– If your retainers are lost or broken, inform your orthodontist without losing time.
– Movable fittings made of acrylic are more likely to break. So do not nap it or hide it in your pocket. Keep away from hot water, pets and laundry-dishwashers.
– Do not forget to bring them with you when you come to the check-in appointment.
